How to Extend the Life of your house and improve value

by Chris

Homeowners on the island of Kauai know very well that our houses require more maintenece then the average “mainland” house. With abundannt foilage surrounding us, constant rains, and salt air, upkeep on a house can be costly. Here are a few tips to keep your house looking new and extend the life of your house.

- Recongize problems as soon as they occur and take care of them fast. Many times owners will notice a leak and let it go for some time before deciding to repair it. Letting a leak go can cause an eye sore once the drywall becomes rotted and stains start to appear. Some leaks can be in hidden areas such as under the sink or perhaps from a second story bathroom. Be sure to do regular checks of your house to see if there are any problem areas showing their face.

- Paint! Paint can increase the life of your house by 10 years. By applying new paint every 5 years you can avoid rust forming, and deterioration of the house. Not only does new paint help extend its life, but it also gives it a fresh new look.
